Are there any professional gamers that use Linux? Posted: 15 Aug 2016 01:35 AM PDT Do we know any? With (more or less) popular esports titles with native Linux versions such as:
And others running alright with Wine, like:
it's not out of the question, I guess? Even if they use dual boot, that still counts. [link] [comments]

Botanicula supports Linux on GOG but Steam says no? Posted: 14 Aug 2016 04:37 PM PDT I own Botanicula on Steam but Steam does not include it in my Library when I filter for Steam OS / Linux games. However, GOG lists it as being cross-compatible. How do I handle this? I want to play it on Linux without needing to rebuy it. [link] [comments]

How to show GOG linux games in Gnome menus? Posted: 14 Aug 2016 08:44 AM PDT I'm very excited about the native linux installers available in GOG, but I'm having some difficulties making the games startup nicely in Gnome. I recently installed Stardew Valley via the GOG linux installer. The installation defaults are unusual (wanting to install the game into /root directory? ) The game works fine but must be run as root at /path/to/game/start.sh. I am running fedora 24 with Gnome 3.20 and would like to run the game from the applications menu in Gnome. I am able to start the game without prompting for password (via an entry in visudo). I tried creating a desktop menu file, stardewvalley.desktop in ~/.local/share/applications using the standard specifications but it still does not show in my Gnome menu. It seems I also need to make sure the launcher is run as root? Any help is appreciated. It seems this is relevant to anybody running a gnome 3.* desktop and wanting to run linux games from GOG. EDIT: Installing as a normal user avoids this problem. Don't be an idiot like me, don't install as root. [link] [comments]
Dota2 keeps crashing since about a week ago Posted: 14 Aug 2016 11:18 AM PDT About 15 minutes into the game, it may crash -- screen goes black, and the music gets stuck like an old broken record. I can't alt-tab out either, forcing me to do a hard restart. Anyone else experiencing this? As I said, it started about a week ago, and it has happened 3 times, twice today. (So, it is not consistant). A google search came up with someone from 2013 complaining about a similar behavior, but they had a AMD card on windows. I'm running an nvidia 960 on Manjaro. Anyway, I am currently reinstalling the game to see if this helps. Thanks for any help in advance! EDIT: okay, it happened once when I was not in the dota client (or any game). I am now going to try and reinstall the OS, as I really don't know what else to do. Thanks for the help guys. EDIT #2: Okay, as crazy as it sounds, I think it was a funky icon set that I was using. I changed it back to breeze, and was able to play a whole match without it crashing. (why icons would affect the fullscreen game when i have compositing disabled is beyond me, but it seems to have been). Thanks for all the help! [link] [comments]
Having issues running Steam in a chroot Posted: 14 Aug 2016 05:17 PM PDT So I was trying to play Heart&Slash on my Arch machine, and it apparently doesn't like Arch. (It also doesn't seem to like Ubuntu 14.04 or 16.04, either.) However it does seem to work on Debian 8, from my VirtualBox testing. So I decided I'd try my hand at installing Steam into a Debian Stable chroot to see if I could get it to launch that way. However, I'm running into some issues with getting steam to launch: However, I can get gedit, for instance, to launch with no issues from the chroot. I've also tried doing I've set the display to my native display: I'm running nvidia proprietary drivers on my host system (GTX 980ti). Would anyone be able to give me some direction on this? Thanks! EDIT: I've also tested a variety of other graphical programs from the chroot, such as iceweasel and chromium, and these seem to work fine so I'm not sure why Steam is so picky about it. =\ [link] [comments]
Getting midi to work with ZDoom Posted: 14 Aug 2016 09:11 AM PDT So I installed ZDoom from the .deb they offer. Works great, but the midi it ships with is crap. I would like it to sound more like a Soundblaster 16. ZDoom offers Timidity, Fluid and Wildmidi support so I installed them from the Mint Software Manager. None of them work. Any ideas on what to do?
